"Argentine Tango is a vivid dance that keeps evolving. A deep connection to the dancepartner together with good technique enables you to improvise to the music."
Dancing on history
Wed. 17th - Sun. 21st of June 2020
365€ - 665€ per person
Bernstein Castle, Austria
About the castle
Burg Bernstein is a family owned hotel with nine lovingly renovated rooms situated in the centre of Burgenland - just an hour´s drive away from Vienna. The oldest part of the castle dates back to the 11th century so you will literally be dancing on history.
The castle has housed generations of different people, the most famous among them probably Count Laszló Almásy - desert explorer and pilot - you might know from the movie "The English Patient".
In the 17th century the castle lost its military importance after the siege of the Turks had failed and the fortifications were repurposed into a fairytale-like garden, that invites you to take a walk and discover your very own favorite spot where you can enjoy perfect calm and stunning views over the local area.
Natascha and Michael are a well loved tango couple based in Vienna, both with about 20 years of tango dancing experience. Michael became a tango teacher in 2012 and Natascha has been dancing various different dance forms since childhood among them ballet and Latin.
They both like to travel and continuously keep working on their skills on International festivals taking classes from many World renowned masters.
In 4 days Nat and Michael will show you the basics of Argentine tango: the tango embrace, change of weight, posture, how to walk as a couple, first turns, ochos and how to interpret the music.
Bring dancing shoes if possible - you need to be able to turn on the ball of the foot, so your shoes should have a leather base. Women's shoes ideally also have a heel.
Pick your room
There are nine lovingly renovated guest rooms that you can choose from - each with it's own unique character. They are equipped with original furniture, while the bathrooms were changed to suit modern tastes. There are no TVs or minibars in the rooms, but you will be surrounded by beautiful nature, clean air and the peace and quiet of the countryside.
There are three Double rooms with an external private bathroom, four Superior rooms and two Suites with a view over the countryside. Two Superior rooms face the inner court, all other rooms have a long distance view over the landscape. On clear days you can even see the Riegersburg castle and even further to parts of the Carinthian Alps approx. 150 km away.

What to do
The castle is located between lush forests and peaceful countryside, so we suggest to spend some of your holiday touring the area. If it's raining you could light a fire in the fireplace and relax with a book, coffee and cake.
After a big continental breakfast every morning to boost your energy, the world is your oyster. Dance on history, go for a swim in the village´s natural swimming pool, explore villages and castles, visit the Zotter chocolate factory, go for a hike in the forest, taste different wines or simply relax in the garden and enjoy the weather. The choice is yours.
Meet your hosts
In 2017 Erasmus and Anna Almásy decided to take over the family business from their parents and keep the tradition of welcoming guests to the family home alive. The family has opened their home since the 1930s to guests from all over the world.
In her spare time Anna and her husband Stephan are enthusiastic Argentine tango dancers and Erasmus loves dancing swing with his friends. Therefore one of the first things we invested in was a new dancefloor that we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
